How does microneedling work?

Using a medical microneedling pen and a sterile single-use needle cartridge, we create thousands of microfine channels in the upper layers of the skin in a controlled way. We set the needle depth individually depending on the area and the goal – gentler on the forehead and around the eyes, deeper for scar tissue on the cheeks. The skin interprets these stimuli as an injury and repairs itself: fibroblasts are activated, new collagen and elastin are formed, and blood circulation improves. Unlike ablative procedures, the skin barrier remains intact.

The second effect is just as important: while the micro-channels are open, the skin absorbs active ingredients many times better. This is where the ladder comes in. Hyaluronic acid, polynucleotides or exosomes are infused during the treatment and reach the dermis – where they take effect. Before the treatment, an anesthetic cream is left on for 30 minutes; the treatment itself takes about 60 minutes including cleansing, needling, infusion of the active ingredient and soothing aftercare.

What you can expect from microneedling

Microneedling is one of the best-researched procedures for skin rejuvenation. It does not fill anything and does not change your facial expressions – it improves the quality of the skin itself. The result develops over weeks and lasts, because newly formed collagen is not broken down the way a filler is.

What the treatment achieves:

More collagen and elastin: Fibroblasts are activated, and the skin becomes firmer and more elastic from within.
Finer pores: Enlarged pores, especially on the nose and cheeks, look much less noticeable after a series.
Smoother skin: Fine lines around the eyes, forehead and mouth soften, and the skin’s surface becomes more even.
Less visible acne scars: Scar tissue is loosened and replaced by well-organized collagen – for atrophic acne scars one of the most effective non-physician methods.
A more even complexion: Cell renewal is accelerated, and mild pigment irregularities and a dull complexion improve.
Active ingredients where they work: Through the open micro-channels, hyaluronic acid, PDRN or exosomes reach the dermis – where serums applied from the outside cannot reach.
Natural result: No volume, no change to your facial expressions – the skin simply looks more rested, denser and fresher.
For every skin type: Unlike laser and light-based procedures, microneedling is suitable for all skin types, including dark skin and skin prone to pigmentation.

Three levels, one method: the microneedling ladder

The needling technique is the same for all three treatments. The difference lies in the active ingredient that enters the skin through the freshly opened micro-channels – and therefore in the depth of regeneration you can expect.

The three levels in detail

Level 1 – Classic Microneedling with hyaluronic acid	The first step on the ladder. During needling we infuse a low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid serum. It binds water in the dermis, soothes the treated skin and supports collagen production. The right choice if you want to refine pores, refresh your complexion or do something preventive for skin density – and for anyone trying microneedling for the first time.
Level 2 – Repair Microneedling (PDRN)	Here we use polynucleotides (PDRN) from highly purified salmon DNA. These DNA fragments are structurally very similar to human genetic material and act as a biostimulator: they stimulate the fibroblasts to repair, have an anti-inflammatory effect and improve moisture retention. We recommend Repair Microneedling for acne scars, sensitive or stressed skin, a tendency to rosacea, and as a follow-up treatment after a CO2 laser, fractional radiofrequency or RF needling. Level 3 – Regenerative Microneedling (exosomes)	The most intensive level of the ladder. Exosomes are tiny vesicles through which cells communicate with each other. They carry growth factors and signaling molecules and stimulate the skin cells to regenerate. We work with a highly concentrated exosome complex that also contains growth factors, polynucleotides and hyaluronic acid. It stimulates the formation of collagen and elastin, improves moisture retention and makes the dermis denser. Which level is right for me? As a rule of thumb: Classic for pores, freshness and prevention. Repair (PDRN) for scars, sensitive skin and regeneration after more intensive procedures. Regenerative (exosomes) for mature skin and the strongest rebuilding effect. Microneedling or radiofrequency needling?

Both procedures work with fine needles but target different layers of the skin. Classic microneedling improves skin quality at the surface and in the upper dermis: pores, texture, scars, complexion. Radiofrequency needling also delivers heat into the depth and tightens the tissue – it is the choice for sagging skin, a double chin or deeper wrinkles. Many of our clients combine both: RF needling for tightening, microneedling with PDRN or exosomes as a regenerative follow-up treatment in between.

Series are personal and valid for 36 months. Switching to a higher level within a series is possible; the difference between the single-session prices is charged. The Medical Cosmetics consultation (€60) is credited when you book a treatment within three months. All prices in euros incl. VAT.

Our tip: Collagen needs repetition. Three sessions four weeks apart bring a much more stable result than a single treatment – hence the series with a 10% discount. After that, one or two refresher treatments per year are enough to maintain the result.

Frequently asked questions about microneedling

What is the difference between the three microneedling levels?

Not in the needling technique at all – but in what we infuse. Classic works with hyaluronic acid and improves hydration, pores and freshness. Repair brings polynucleotides (PDRN) from salmon DNA into the skin, which act as a biostimulator, stimulate repair and have an anti-inflammatory effect. Regenerative uses an exosome complex with growth factors, polynucleotides and hyaluronic acid and achieves the strongest rebuilding effect. The higher the level, the stronger the rebuilding effect.

What are exosomes – and where do they come from?

Exosomes are tiny vesicles that cells release to communicate with each other. They contain growth factors, proteins and signaling molecules and stimulate the skin cells to regenerate. The exosomes we use are obtained from colostrum and processed in a standardized way. They are neither stem cells nor human tissue.

Does microneedling hurt?

Hardly. We apply an anesthetic cream 30 minutes before the treatment. Most clients describe the needling as tingling or light scratching, at about 1 to 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. The forehead and upper lip are more sensitive, the cheeks are not.

What does the skin look like after the treatment?

Immediately afterwards the skin is red as after sunbathing, sometimes slightly swollen, occasionally with small pinpoint bleeding spots. This subsides within 24 to 48 hours. Make-up is usually possible again from the following day; we recommend waiting two days before sports and sauna.

How many sessions do I need, and how far apart?

We recommend three sessions about four weeks apart. For acne scars, five to six sessions can be useful. After that, one or two refresher treatments per year are enough to maintain the result.

When will I see the result?

A fresh glow often appears after just a few days, once the redness has subsided. The actual effect – new collagen, finer pores, a smoother skin surface – develops over four to twelve weeks and is most visible after the series is complete.

Can I have microneedling done in summer too?

Yes, with one restriction: in the first one to two weeks after the treatment you should avoid direct sun and use sun protection with SPF 50+ every day. We do not treat freshly tanned or sunburned skin.

Is microneedling suitable for all skin types?

Yes. Because microneedling works without heat and without light, it is also suitable for dark skin types and skin prone to pigmentation – an advantage over laser and IPL. For very sensitive skin or a tendency to rosacea, we recommend level 2 (PDRN), because the polynucleotides also have a soothing effect.

When must microneedling not be performed?

We do not treat in the case of acute skin inflammation, active acne with pustules or herpes in the treatment area, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with a tendency to keloids, with active autoimmune diseases of the skin, or if isotretinoin has been taken in the last six months. If you take blood thinners, please consult us first. For level 3 we check in advance for a possible intolerance to milk components, as the exosomes are derived from colostrum.

Can I combine microneedling with other treatments?

Very well, in fact. Proven options are alternating with radiofrequency needling, combining it with medical peels or IPL, and microneedling with PDRN or exosomes as a follow-up treatment after a CO2 laser or fractional radiofrequency. We keep at least two weeks between two intensive procedures in the same area.
