IPL against pigment spots

The gentle alternative to laser treatment for the perfect even complexion. Ideal for removing pigmentation spots or even age spots.

What happens during an IPL treatment for pigmentation?

During treatment with medical IPL, pigment spots are exposed to high-energy, intense pulsed light. This energy is absorbed by the excess melanin in the skin and converted into heat. The pigment-rich cell structures are destroyed by the increased temperature. Only the areas where an overproduction of melanin has occurred are targeted. The surrounding, non-pigmented areas do not react with the IPL and remain unaffected.

In addition to an even complexion, you can benefit from the following advantages

The focus of IPL treatment is the spectrum of light produced. Unlike lasers, which produce specific wavelengths to target specific tissues, IPL devices emit a broader spectrum of light wavelengths. Light in this spectrum can address a wide range of skin problems.

What you can expect:

  • Even skin texture: this treatment method reduces pigmented skin lesions, this treatment works especially well on sun spots and age spots without texture on the skin.
  • Quick results: A good result is visible after the first treatment.
  • Even with low pain tolerance: A special anesthetic cream is applied before treatment if desired. In this way, even pain-sensitive patients can be freed from disturbing skin discolorations.
  • Customization: IPL treatment can be customized to meet the individual needs of our clients to achieve satisfactory results.
  • Gentler than a laser: IPL technology is not a laser treatment, but a special type of light therapy that uses broader light spectra, making it gentler on the skin than conventional laser systems.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about IPL

Lasting results are achieved after 3 to 5 sessions at intervals of 3 to 4 weeks. We recommend 3 treatments.

Often, the first improvements can be seen after the first treatment. However, this can vary greatly depending on the skin condition and treatment strength.

Immediately after the treatment, the treated areas will be more noticeable than before. The pigment spots will become darker at first, as the excess melanin is transported to the skin surface. The crusts/scales then fall off by themselves. This effect is intentional and necessary to achieve an improvement.

IPL is most suitable for patients with skin type I to IV. Contraindications for this treatment include some skin diseases or taking medications that make the skin sensitive to light.

In any case, avoid the sun for the first week after treatment. A suitable sunscreen with SPF 50+ is indispensable. In addition, sports and unnecessary sweating should be avoided for the first 3 days.

Since the IPL targets the pigments in the skin, it works best the greater the color difference between normal skin and the offending pigment. The darker the skin type, the smaller this color difference becomes. You can then still treat the offending pigment, but the energy must be reduced, which increases the number of treatments.

Mainly, patients feel a warm sensation on the skin. Sometimes up to a slight stinging pain. Immediately after the treatment, it feels similar to a mild sunburn.

Mild and moisturizing products are especially good for the skin after IPL treatment. To achieve even better results, we offer special serums and creams against pigmentation spots.

It is recommended to avoid this procedure during the summer months, especially in high temperatures and strong sunlight. This is because the skin may be more sensitive to sunlight after the treatment, which increases the risk of pigmentary shifts due to UV radiation.
